Ban Casinos
Please..I'm sick of these guys flooding the LOCAL channel with their crap. It doesn't belong in an online roleplaying game and it CERTAINLY doesn't belong in a fantasy environment.
If people want to gamble...there are plenty of online gambling games to choose from. You can lose virtual or real money...whichever you'd like to lose
Either that...or make the IGNORE command actually block ALL text by the character, and not just whispers. That would at least be a good stopgap.

I agree with your first suggestion although im sure there are plenty who will object.
I REALLY AGREE with the ignore comment. It's irritating to listen to someone constantly spam a channel every two seconds.
CAN I BUY THIS
CAN I BUY THIS
CAN I BUY THIS
CAN I BUY THIS
When thats all you see for 10 mins straight and you can roll back and see nothing but that on your text log, theres a problem. If i put someone on ignore i'd like to not see him or any of his emotes or anything concerning him on my chat bar. it's disruptive to any other conversation you may be trying to have.

Exactly..right now, people are getting around the spam filters by changing their text slightly and just waiting a second or so before re-posting.

Does anyone know why /ignore doesn't work? Every chat program and game I've used/played in the last 10 years has a way to ignore these people.
I don't want to ever trade or party with them so please fix /ignore, thx...

But then I cannot tell if people are LFG or wanting to quest, etc. Unchecking the local channel is not an option in my opinion.
By your logic, they should create a 'casino' channel.

Or a better solution would be to NOT ban them at all.
Why not just implement them into the game? As in give people access to a very base dice rolling interface, which allows people to place bets ect.
Would be much easier then them spamming local with "X rolls 50 on 100 sided dice"
followed by "W00T! I win"
Why get rid of something people like to do? simply give them an interface to allow them to do it.
On the comment that Gambling doesn't belong in a fantasy setting, your'll find that gambling has existed long in history.

First off, has anyone ever seen a casino player actually pay up when a player wins? I've seen them map travel out of the district as soon as someone rolls over the triple pay back. I think it's just another scam. I don't understand why you just don't go and actually play the game if you need money that badly.

To be completly honest, i dont give a whoot weather people gamble or not, what i want is the ignore feature to work so i dont have to see it. Then they can spam the die rolls and the casino advertisment all they want. In fact, when you get down to it, thats the whole basis of the idea to ban gambleing all together, the spam. The OP started another thread based on the whole ignore command and it should be looked at. If that ever gets 'fixed' you'll quickly find people careing much less about weather others gamble or not.
Clickity Click for that thread.

I would be totally fine with that. I just want to not have it BLASTED across my chat windows forcing me to either a) leave, or b) hide the local chat window and miss out on what that channel is intended for.
I must admit, I made the original post shortly after quitting the game in disgust after being spammed by casinos. So the subject title is a bit more 'shocky' than it needs to be.
Really..we just need a solution to get all these casino players out of our faces.
I still stand behind my original thought that this type of thing does not belong in this type of game...there are STAND-ALONE gambling games out there if people want to gamble.
If you want to earn money in this game, you should do so by the intended means...go out and kill, or join in the player economy.
What's next? In-game drugs/drinking/prostitution/mafiosi?

Yeah, that's why I decided to make that thread. It makes more sense than this one
Although I do like to hear and participate in debate over this topic.

Ive already seen someone saying they "will poll dance for a warriors" in a mission zone, so that takes Prostitution off the list. I have seen people been payed, but insted of it flooding the local chat, i think the dice spam should only pop up to people within a very small distance. I dont mind seeing casino "ads" ,for lack of a better term, providing they dont spam it constantly.

Ugh..just saw THREE casinos all competiting tonight in the local channel. Lemme tell ya, I just logged off after seeing that misery.
Upon mention of suggesting that an ignore feature would be a beautiful thing, you shoulda heard the potty mouths on them..well, if the chat filter was turned off Their true and juvenile colours shone through.

I take back what I said in this thread before... give these things a channel or system of their own or ban the /roll command!
I was in the Ice cave last night and there was one running in there ffs
They are speading out everywhere they can, and its starting to get a bit silly.

Aye, thier getting bold. Some of 'em are even beginning to admit that its a scam. Bragging about it on a forum is nothing to be proud of.
EDIT:: Let's not get into that however, i've become rather attached to this thread and i'd hate to see it closed and locked.

I wish we could get some sort of official (or at least semi-official) word from Anet on their feelings on this.

I never see casinos because I never to go to ascalon, even to buy stuff. There are other places to buy things. If casinos spread outside of ascalon then yes I'll agree.

I'm sorry but I see Casinos in every town I go to, with a few small exceptions. It would be nice if it were just Ascalon but they spread from there long ago.
